Keeping Things Neat and Clean! Buyers will be more impressed with a clean, well-ordered living room than they will with one that looks "lived-in". Put everything away that isn't absolutely necessary to the room. Things like toys, souvenirs, magazines, and family photos should all be put in their proper places and/or packed away.
Fresh Paint You may have to re-paint your walls. Not all tastes appeal to everyone. If you have walls that are an unusual color or wall-paper print, you may want to think about repainting. Try something more neutral.
Keep Your Furniture In Order Take a good look at your furniture as well. If it is too big or there is too much of it, it can make the room look smaller. Consider removing some of it. Get some slipcovers if it looks worn. Try to rearrange it so it includes a reading area, this makes the room look more relaxing.
Rearrange Your Living Room Don't let the focal point of the room be the television. Rearrange the living room so that most of the focus is on a nice architectural detail, or lovely centerpiece, mirror, or painting.
Avoid Odors Remember to have the carpet shampooed to remove any odors. Replace it if it is too stained. If you happen to have wood flooring, make sure it looks its best; refinish it if necessary.
Let Light In! To make windows look their best, dress them with blinds or neutral, airy curtains. Anything too heavy will make the room too dark and small.
